The World-wide Projects are what is actually new in the World Exhibition EXPO 2000, with its motto of "Humanity - Nature - Technology". Naturally, EXPO 2000 will happen in Hanover. it will also be happening, however, wherever a World-wide Project is to be found. EXPO 2000 is a global theatre with many local stages: World-wide projects tackle current problems and solve them in a local context, in such a way that the prospects of future generations won't be impaired.

Appropriately, the World-wide Projects show themselves throughout the different continents in very different lights: some are surprising for their non-reproducible quality, others are ideally suited to imitation. World-wide Projects should have their impact where they are based. The transfer and exchange of ideas is welcome and desirable.

The programme of the World-wide Projects began in Germany in the autumn of 1994. Over 1000 projects applied for inclusion. 280 exemplary projects were chosen, innovative, solution-oriented, and applicable in other regions of the world, amongst them the ANIMAX Multimedia Theatre. In 1999 all registered projects were scrutinised anew with attention to the state of their self-set goals, and only then finally recognised as exhibits. The ANIMAX Multimedia Theatre also received in 1999 the official recognition as a registered World-wide Project of the EXPO 2000. The work of ANIMAX reflects the themes of the World Exhibition "the Human", "Basic Needs", "Knowledge", "Information", "Communication" and "Future of Labour".

In June and July of 2000, the ANIMAX Multimedia Theatre will show as part of the World Exhibition the walk-in interactive audio-video installation "Story Machine", jointly developed by the New York artist Doris Vila, the New York composer Dave Weinstein, and the Bonn Development Workshop for Computer Media. With this project, which is chiefly aimed at children between the ages of 6 and 12, the ANIMAX Multimedia Theatre investigates new educational political ways of presenting media based forms of narration.

An additional project is the "Camera Musica" under the direction of Dr. Gerhard Eckel, a Cyberstage Presentation in co-operation with the GMD Research Centre for Information Technology Ltd.
